Lost and found is about a girl whose mother abandons her in a department store. Her dad is dead and she makes two friends. One friend is an old man and the other an old lady.
That’s the story.
I can honestly say, this is one of those books that I’m not 100 percent sure about. It’s a cute story – don’t’ get me wrong. It has really funny parts, and I’m intrigued by the unique use of dialogue. It reminds me a lot of Jenna Blum’s Those Who Save Me with the lack of quotation marks.
I like it for the most part. It’s funny, whimsical and you can really see how brilliant Davis is with her work. It was hard for me to buy that a young girl would be left in a department store though, without anyone noticing her for a day. Wouldn’t motion detectors go off? It was difficult for me.
I think my biggest disconnect wasn’t that I didn’t like the book. I did. It was a very enjoyable read. Great dialogue and Davis has a great ear for dialogue. It’s a good book. I think it’s because this isn’t the kind of book I usually read.
I’m not much of a person for whimsy. I like it every now and then, and this book was that “every now and then” book. The charming little book has fulfilled my quota for the year. I tend to enjoy more serious books.
The one thing that Brooke won me over on was her brilliant sense of humor. She had me laughing out loud there a few times with this book, and that is quite a feat. Seriously, I rarely laugh out loud when it comes to things I read. Books try to be funny, and they fall horribly flat, but not this one. This one fit the bill and I appreciate that.
Overall, this is one of those books that if you enjoy a fun, tongue-in-cheek style, this is your book. You will seriously love it. If you are like me, and you prefer more serious and deep books, you might not like it so much. I think, overall, everyone needs to read it because it is a quick read, it’s fun and at the end of the day you will laugh.
